HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team continued its opening weekend winning ways by beating Maryville again on Sunday by a score of 20-8. The Chargers improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Saints slip to 0-3.

Overall on the day, the Chargers collected 23 hits and seven walks, while also posting six extra-base hits in the contest.
Tanner Cimo and
Trey Mathis paced the Blue and White's offense as both had 4-for-5 performances. Mathis batted .727 in the opening weekend.

The Chargers started strong yet again totaling five runs in the bottom of the first to take an immediate 5-0 advantage.
Brandon Lawing kicked off the scoring effort with a double down the left field line, which was followed by RBI base hits by Mathis, Walden and Cimo.

UAH starting pitcher
Tyler Howell allowed a pair of runs to the Saints in the second, but they would be the only runs to cross the plate in his 5.0 innings of work. Howell amassed three strikeouts and allowed six hits, while earning his first victory of the season.

The Chargers continued to pile on runs, as UAH added four runs in both the fourth, sixth and eighth frames, with single runs coming in during the second, fifth and seventh.

Lawing finished the game with a team-high five RBI, with Cimo not far behind with four of his own. Mathis ended the sweep-sealing victory with four runs scored and a pair of RBI to cap off his stellar weekend to open the season.

The Chargers have four games in the coming week beginning with an away midweek matchup at Tuskegee on Tuesday, and then West Georgia comes to the Rocket City on Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series to open Gulf South Conference play.
