BACK IN CONFERENCE ACTION: The No. 7 UAH softball team will continue play at home this weekend, stepping back into Gulf South Conference action with a visit from Delta State. The Chargers (18-5, 11-2 GSC) will welcome the Lady Statesmen for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping up the series with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. UAH will not be back home after this weekend until Valdosta State comes to the Rocket City on April 3.
Â
GSC UPDATE: The top of the GSC standings feature the league's three nationally-ranked teams as No. 2 Valdosta State leads the way with a conference mark of 13-1, followed by UAH's 11-2 record and No. 15 North Alabama's league record of 8-3. Only the top six teams will make the GSC tournament this season, and if the season ended today, the field would be completed by Shorter (9-5), Union (7-7), and Delta State (3-5).
Â
SURGING SOPHOMORE: Kaitlyn Bannister added to her team-best RBI total in the non-conference doubleheader with Tuskegee on Wednesday, driving in four more runs to give her 21 RBI in the team's last 11 games and 30 on the season. That total is good for 17th in the country, and the sophomore ranks second in the GSC in RBI.
Â
NO FREE PASSES: The Chargers feature one of the best pitching staffs in the country (the unit ranks 12th in the nation in ERA), and a large part of the group's success has been limiting walks.
Kimberly Jack ranks 22nd in Division II in fewest walks allowed per seven innings with 0.64, while
Emily Glover is 25th with 0.68.
Â
ABOUT DELTA STATE: The Lady Statesmen enter the weekend at 12-10 (3-5 GSC) and are winners of three straight while also owning a 4-5 record on the road. Amber Adcock is batting .467 to lead the team in average, while Kaitlin Moore's 20 RBI leads the way in that statistical category. With a 5-2 record and a 2.38 ERA, Shayna Beaver paces the team in the circle.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are 35-12 against DSU all-time, and UAH won four of five meetings last year against the Lady Statesmen including a pair of wins in the GSC tournament.
