HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's tennis teams suffered a pair of setbacks to nationally-ranked Valdosta State Saturday. The women's squad fell 6-3, bringing their GSC record to 3-1 and 5-4 overall, while the men lost 8-1 dropping their overall record to 2-4 and 1-2 in conference play.
Naomi Esteve and 
Abby Burks were awarded one point in doubles play due to forfeit, while the Blazers grabbed the other two points with a pair of 8-4 victories over tandems of 
Marleen Gort and 
Aniek Remmerswaal, and 
Cristina Cabanas and 
Katie Bryant.
In singles play, the Chargers were again awarded points due to Valdosta State forfeits, with Remmerswaal and Bryant each picking up points. 
Marta Briega fell just short in two sets to Joanna Lario (7-6, 7-6). Gort fell to Bea Morales Hernandez 6-0, 6-1, while Esteve and Cabanas were defeated by Anke Poncelet (6-3, 6-1) and Jennifer Rink (6-0, 6-0) respectively.
On the men's side, the Chargers were swept by the the Blazers in doubles play. 
Harrison Stone and 
Elliot Hopson fell just shy of victory, losing to Leo Blay and Francisco Yim Kim 8-6.
In singles play, 
Jose Soto was yet again victorious, defeating Blay 7-6, 7-5 for his seventeenth straight singles win. Valdosta State was successful in each of the five remaining singles matches to clinch the victory.
Both squads will be back in action Monday in Montgomery, Ala. where they will take on the Alabama State Hornets. The matches are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
