HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams played their final home matches this season versus Lee Saturday, and the men ran past the Flames 8-1 while the women were 6-3 winners.

The men's squad finishes its GSC schedule with a three-game win streak, bringing their conference mark to 5-4 while improving to 8-7 overall. The ladies rise to a 9-9 overall record and 6-4 in conference play.

Dropping a point at No. 1, the men took the remaining doubles matches with an 8-4 victory from
Jose Soto and
Elliot Hopson at position two and an 8-2 win from
Nestor Perez and
Harrison Stone at No. 3.

Holding the 2-1 lead, the Chargers swept singles play, headlined by a pair of 6-0, 6-0 matches from Hopson and Stone at the No. 5 and 6 singles. Soto and
David Cooper also cruised to victory with Soto defeating Ignacio Salom Hernandez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 while Cooper nearly blanked Mike Herelle 6-1, 6-0 at position four.

A couple of three-set victories at positions No. 2 and 3 sealed the singles sweep with Perez defeating Rhys Milne 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and
Pablo Herrero sliding past Daniel Hardesty 7-6(0), 3-6, 7-6(2) at No. 3.

On the women's side, UAH quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead as
Marleen Gort and
Naomi Esteve won 8-1 at the No. 1 doubles position, while the No. 2 point was captured by
Katie Bryant and
Cristina Cabanas in an 8-2 victory. The Flames picked up the third point, however, to make it 2-1 heading into singles action.

The Chargers took singles positions one, two, and three in straight sets, ensuring victory, with wins from Gort (6-2, 6-4), Cabanas (6-2, 6-3), and
Marta Briega (6-2, 6-2).

Lee took positions No. 4 and 6, while Esteve was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at position five.

UAH tennis will play its final regular season matches on the road at Martin Methodist this upcoming week, with the women's squad taking on the Red Hawks Monday while the men play their final match Tuesday.
