PULASKI, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's tennis team hit the road Tuesday for their final match of the regular season and came away 5-4 winners at Martin Methodist.
With the victory, the Chargers improve to 9-7 on the season, finishing the regular season on a four-game winning streak.
The RedHawks jumped out in front early, taking two of three doubles points, with the UAH's lone doubles point coming at position No. 3 where
Nestor Perez and
Harrison Stone won 8-4 over Salomon Persson and Daniel Emirzian.
Jose Soto led the way in singles play, capturing his 26th straight win, defeating Ramiro Vargas 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1, while
Elliot Hopson (6-3, 6-1) and Stone (6-1, 6-1) also won in straight sets at positions No. 5 and 6.
With the match tied 4-4,
Pablo Herrero clinched the Charger victory at position three where he narrowly defeated Persson 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(6).
UAH looks forward to its GSC playoff matchup this Friday against a yet to be determined conference opponent. The first round match will take place in Montgomery, Alabama and is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
