No. 4 UAH Sweeps LeMoyne Owen in Doubleheader

HUNTSVILLE | The No. 4 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team defeated LeMoyne Owen in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Charger Park by scores of 14-2 and 22-0. UAH improves to 28-6-1, while LMC slips to 4-19 overall.

Logan Crook made the start on the mound in game one, and turned in 5.0 scoreless innings with two walks and five strikeouts. Crook improves to 3-0 on the season with the win.

Crook received some immediate support from his teammates at the plate, as senior Ryan Barnes spotted the right-hander with a three-run homer to right for the first runs of the game. The Blue and White went on to add four runs in the second and two in the third, before capping off the scoring effort with a five-run rally in the fifth.

Reliever Brent Elder was tagged with two runs allowed – both unearned – while being tagged for five base hits to bring the game to its 14-2 final. Elder did not issue a walk in his 2.0 innings of work.

Senior Colton Simbeck led the way in the first game going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI, with Barnes pacing the Chargers with four RBI.

The UAH offense continued to excel at the dish on Tuesday in game two, rallying for five runs in the first and exploding for a 13-run rally in the bottom of the second. Reigning GSC Freshman of the Week AJ Walden highlighted the rallies with three homers through the first two frames, his first career multi-home run game.

The bats quieted down at the plate following the second inning, only adding one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to make it a 22-0 final in the second game. Hunter Skipper made the start in game two, working an efficient 4.0 innings with three hits, no walks and five strikeouts.

Following Skipper, Chase McRae, Chris Pennell and Landon Boggs combined for three scoreless innings with five strikeouts to complete the Chargers sixth shutout of the season.

UAH looks ahead to tomorrow's non-conference matchup at Charger Park against Montevallo. First pitch has been bumped up to 5 p.m. from 6 p.m. for Wednesday's contest.
