BUSY STRETCH: The 11th-ranked UAH softball team will start a span of five games in three days on Thursday when the Chargers (27-9, 16-6 Gulf South Conference) welcome Miles for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader prior to hitting the road for Memphis for a three-game set with Christian Brothers this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start while the single game on Sunday will begin at noon.
Â
GSC STANDINGS: UAH's series victory over Valdosta State a week ago bunched things up at the top of the league standings somewhat as VSU (20-3) now holds just a two-game advantage over North Alabama (15-5) in the loss column. The Chargers sit in third at 16-6, while fourth-place Shorter is at 14-9. Only the top six teams this year will earn a place in the GSC tournament which will be held on the campus of the No. 1 seed.
Â
SACRIFICES: Haley Thompson owns a team-best 13 sacrifice bunts on the season, ranking her 10th in all of Division II with 0.36 per game. Additionally, with three sacrifice flies, Kaitlyn Banister is 33rd in the country in that category.
Â
DRIVING THEM IN: Bannister is not ranked highly in just sacrifice flies as her conference-leading 45 RBI is good enough for 14th in the nation in total RBI while her RBI per game number of 1.25 ranks 22nd nationally.
Â
CIRCLE STRENGTH: The Chargers feature the country's 10th-best team ERA at 1.71, and the team is also the only one in Division II to feature two pitchers in the top 10 individually in ERA as
Kimberly Jack is fifth at 0.84 while
Taylor Doriety is 10th with an 0.95 mark.
Â
ABOUT MILES: The Golden Bears will come to Huntsville with a 6-21 record pending the outcome of a doubleheader with Stillman on Wednesday afternoon, and the squad is 2-11 away from home. Kendreuna McPherson leads the team offensively, driving in a team-best nine runs while hitting .295.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers are a perfect 12-0 all-time against Miles.
Â
ABOUT CBU: Also pending the results of a Wednesday doubleheader, Christian Brothers is the owner of a 9-31 (2-19 GSC) record, and the team is 5-10 at home. Jennifer Gonzalez poses a strong threat offensively, batting .430 while driving in 42 RBI to sit second in the GSC behind UAH's Bannister. In the circle, the Lady Bucs own a staff ERA of 7.12.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH holds a wide 20-2 advantage in the all-time series with Christian Brothers, and the Chargers have a 12-game winning streak going against the Lady Bucs including a four-game sweep of CBU last year with three regular season wins and a victory at the GSC tournament.
