West Alabama Knocks Off UAH 2-0 on Sunday

PHOTOS
HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team fell on Sunday in its first home conference game of the season, dropping a 2-0 decision to visiting West Alabama. The Chargers slip to 3-3-1 (0-2-0 GSC) with the setback while UWA improves to 3-1-0 (1-0-0 GSC).

The visiting Tigers controlled play in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Chargers 10-3 in the opening half while also earning eight corners to just one for UAH, and UWA converted that into an early lead as Kirsten Reilly scored in the 14th to make it a 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way through the second half as UAH created some chances in that period, and none were more threatening than Alexcia Alexander's in the 87th as the home side's scoring leader broke away for a 1-on-1 opportunity.

Unfortunately, her try would go just right of the goal, and West Alabama's Mia Harvey would ice the contest just over a minute later when she scored in the 88th.

For the contest, UWA owned a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in corners, though the shot-on-goal differential was closer at a 7-4 margin for the Tigers.

Larae Breaux made five saves in goal for UAH in the setback, running the sophomore's season save total to 49.

The Chargers will look to bounce back next weekend when the squad continues GSC action on the road in the Magnolia State. UAH travels to Mississippi College for a 2 p.m. showdown on Friday before heading to Delta State on Sunday with kick-off slated for 1:30 p.m.
