MEMPHIS, Tenn. | The UAH volleyball team fell to Gulf South Conference opponent Christian Brothers on Friday evening by a score of 3-2 (23-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 15-10) to open the weekend's slate of games. UAH dips to 11-2, 2-2 GSC, while CBU improves to 5-6, 2-3 GSC.
Christian Brothers went ahead early in the first set with a 25-23 win, and then extended the lead to 2-0 after taking the second frame 26-24. UAH held a late lead in the second set at 19-18, but CBU rebounded with a 4-0 run to grab a three-point advantage en route to the win in the stanza.
UAH, however, did not back down after being in an early 2-0 hole, as the Blue and White would win the second and third sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-21, respectively. With the fourth frame tied 16-16, the Chargers took four of the next five points to go ahead 20-17, followed by back-and-forth scoring between the two teams before UAH tallied back-to-back points to take the fourth set 25-21 and tie the match 2-2.
The Bucs came alive early in the fifth and decisive frame, as the hosts rallied for early runs of 3-0 and 4-0 to command a 7-3 advantage in the set. UAH responded late in the stanza with consecutive points to bring the score within one, but CBU finished off the five-set victory with a four-point run for a 15-10 win.
The Chargers attack was led by freshman
Anna LeDuc with 15 kills, while
Olivia Bauman and
Haley Snyder had impressive showings with 10 and 13 kills, respectively. Sophomore
Kirsten Giles also had a successful night with a career-high 52 assists to go along with a team-best 18 digs to notch a double-double.
UAH will be back in action tomorrow as the squad travels to Jackson, Tennessee to take on Union at 2 p.m. and continue GSC play.
