Chargers Roll to 3-0 GSC Win at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. | Sydney Pfankuch scored twice, Lerae Breaux recorded a clean sheet, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team rolled to a 3-0 road win at Delta State on Sunday. The Chargers even their record at 4-4-1 while picking up their first conference win of the year to go to 1-3-0 in league action, while DSU slips to 1-5-1 (0-5-0 GSC).

The win also marks the first road triumph of the season for UAH.

With the Chargers up 1-0 after a 22nd minute goal from Isabel Shanteau, Pfankuch iced the game for the visitors with a pair of goals just 12 minutes apart in the second half.

The sophomore's first of the contest came in the 59th when Sydnie Fiocca assisted on the score, and Pfankuch added her second in the 71st off a helper from Melody Hoerenschemeyer.

With the two goals, Pfankuch takes over the team lead in both goals with eight now on the season and also in points as she has 20.

Shanteau's strike is her fourth of the season and her second game-winner, while Fiocca and Hoerenschemeyer notch their fourth and second assists, respectively.

Earning her third shutout of the season was the UAH keeper Breaux as she turned away each of the five shots that Delta State put on target, running Breaux's season save total to 60.

For the contest, DSU held a slight 18-16 advantage in shots, but the Chargers had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Statesmen also earned five corners to UAH's four.

The Chargers will look to build upon Sunday's victory when conference play continues at Charger Park in the first installment of Friday Night Football this season when Christian Brothers visits. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
