HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference has announced the GSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and UAH's
Dina Saunders has captured the honor after completing a week that saw her record a career performance. The award for Saunders marks the second individual honor for a Charger this year as
Baylee Johnson was previously named the GSC Freshman of the Week.
Â
Saunders was terrific, especially so against Christian Brothers as the senior recorded a personal-best with 32 points and 14 rebounds in the team's victory. She scored 15 of her points from beyond the arc as she knocked down five 3-pointers, and she was also a strong 13-for-15 at the charity stripe.
Â
She followed that performance up with 12 points and four rebounds on the road against North Alabama, helping the Chargers pick up a win against the rival.
Â
On the year, Saunders is scoring 12.5 points per game to lead the team offensively while owning a rebounding average of 4.9 per contest. She is shooting 83.3 percent at the free throw line and has made 24 3s on the year.
Â
Saunders and her teammates will be back in action at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Thursday when the team welcomes Valdosta State to town before turning around and hosting West Florida on Saturday on the American Sports Network. Tip-off on Thursday is slated for 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's contest is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
