CLINTON, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team started 2016 on the right foot, picking up a 64-51 win on the road at Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 7-4 (4-3 Gulf South Conference), while MC slips to 3-7 (1-6 GSC).

Senior
Dina Saunders led the visitors on the day as she hit five 3-pointers en route to scoring 22 points, and that performance marked the highest scoring total by a Charger so far this season.

She was joined in double figures by
Josi Saunders who tallied 12.

The Chargers led for more than 38 minutes of the contest with
Dina Saunders scoring 13 of her points in the first two quarters to help UAH hold a 32-20 lead at the break after
Chandler Elder made a layup fall right at the buzzer.

Another buzzer-beater for the Chargers came at the end of the third quarter as
Halle Jarnagin's try was good to put UAH up 53-33, and the team would now allow Mississippi College to come any closer than 12 en route to the victory.

Kristen Sampson led MC with 18 points in the setback.

For the contest, UAH shot 46.0 percent from the field while connecting on 10 of its 22 3-point shots, and a strong defensive effort limited the Lady Choctaws to a shooting mark of just 33.3 percent including a 29.2 percent showing in the opening pair of stanzas.

The Chargers won the battle on the glass with
Josi Saunders grabbing nine of UAH's 36 rebounds compared to 29 for the hosts, and UAH used 10 offensive rebounds to outscore MC 12-3 in second-chance points.

With Jarnagin's six leading the way, UAH dished out 14 assists in the contest.

UAH will look to build upon the win on Monday as the team travels to Delta State for a 5:30 p.m. contest against the nationally-ranked Lady Statesmen.
