CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell on Monday evening on the road, dropping a 57-48 decision to No. 22 Delta State. UAH slips to 7-5 (4-4 Gulf South Conference) with the setback, while the Lady Statesmen improve to 10-1 (7-1 GSC).

Each of
Halle Jarnagin,
Baylee Johnson,
Dina Saunders and
Josi Saunders scored nine points to pace UAH offensively in the loss.

It was the defensive effort of the Chargers that was especially impressive as UAH held the Lady Statesmen to two five-minute scoreless stretches, and the team forced Delta State to commit a season-high 21 turnovers. Additionally, the Lady Statesmen were held to a season-low field goal percentage of 33.3 which is below DSU's season average of 42.5 percent.

Delta State led for much of the contest, holding a 30-20 advantage at the halftime break, and though UAH would quickly narrow the gap to just four less than a minute into the third quarter, the hosts were in front 45-32 by the end of the period.

DSU – led by Chelsey Rhodes who scored 22 points in the contest – then would lead by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter en route to claiming the win.

The Chargers would outperform Delta State from the field as the team shot 34.0 percent, but the Lady Statesmen made 25 free throws on 32 attempts while UAH was 11-for-13 at the stripe.

Delta State won the rebounding battle, grabbing 38 boards – including 12 on the offensive end – while the visitors collected 27.

Leading UAH on the glass was
Josi Saunders who snagged five.

The Chargers will return to action on Saturday as preseason GSC favorite Union visits Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Tip-off in Huntsville is slated for 2 p.m.
