HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell to No. 17 Union in a Gulf South Conference matchup at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 89-85. The Chargers slip to 7-6 (4-5 GSC), while the Bulldogs improve to 13-2 (7-2 GSC).

Senior Halle Jarnagin led the Chargers with her most impressive performance of the season with a team-best 23 points and 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the 2015-16 season. Seven of Jarnagin's boards were on the offensive end, which is a career high for the Brentwood, Tennessee, native.

The Chargers held strong against the nationally-ranked Bulldogs on Saturday in Huntsville, as the Blue and White maintained a one-point advantage at 47-46 heading into the first half.

In the first quarter, the Chargers trailed early before tying the contest at 17-17 with 3:38 left to play, and the squad went on to outscore Union 16-7 in the remainder of the period to lead 33-24 at the first break. The Chargers 33 points in the first period are a season-best for second-year head coach Andrea Lemmond's squad.

UAH had a bevy of success from beyond the arc during the initial 20 minutes, posting a 41.2 percent (7-for-12) success rate on 3-pointers in the first two quarters of play. Jarnagin and fellow senior Josi Saunders shared the team lead with 12 points each in the opening half.

The majority of the third period was a back-and-forth affair, but the Chargers held a 67-65 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Union was able to overtake the deficit early into the fourth holding an 83-82 advantage with 2:29 to play, before a key 3-pointer by sophomore Caroline Dodd made it 85-83 in favor of UAH.

However, Union went on to shutout UAH over the final 2:06 for the 89-85 GSC victory.

For the contest, UAH shot 40.0 percent while Union hit 53.8 percent of its attempts. The Chargers again made more than 10 3-pointers, knocking down 12 to pick up the team's first setback when making 10 or more.

Behind Jarnagin's strong performance, UAH won the battle on the glass by a 38-36 margin.

The Chargers will look to bounce back on Monday when Christian Brothers visits. Tip-off in the Rocket City is set for 3:30 p.m.
