PHOTOSHUNTSVILLE | A national television audience watched as The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team won for the fourth time in five games, pushing past visiting West Florida 73-61 on Saturday at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH moves to 13-5 (10-3 Gulf South Conference) with the win, while UWF falls to 3-13 (2-11 GSC).

With both UAH and West Georgia winning on Saturday, a battle for sole possession of first place is now on hand when the two teams meet in Carrollton on Thursday with tip at UWG slated for 7 p.m. CST.

Michael Gilmore turned in a huge performance for the Chargers, scoring 19 points in 21 minutes off the bench to lead the team in scoring. The redshirt junior established a new career high in points off a terrific shooting night as he went 7-for-9 from the field with three 3-pointers.

Seab Webster scored 12 and
Brandon Roberts added 10 to give UAH three in double figures.

Leading West Florida in the contest was Austin Somerfield who scored 14.

UWF controlled play through the opening half as the Chargers started off a bit slowly, and the Argos built up as much as a 13-point advantage in the first 20 minutes en route to holding a 31-27 lead at the break.

The margin would expand back to six in favor of the Argos just under three minutes into the second half, but the hosts then wrested control of the game by going on a 20-2 run over the next nearly seven minutes to go in front by 12 at 54-42 just before the midway point of the stanza.

The Argos pulled back within six but could come no closer as the Chargers saw their lead balloon to as much as 16 points in the final minutes.

With a strong second half that saw UAH shoot better than 50 percent, the Chargers finished the day shooting 45.1 percent from the field while limiting UWF to a 37.5 percent field goal mark, but the Argos controlled the glass, collecting 41 rebounds to UAH's 32.

Roberts had a team-best seven rebounds for the hosts.
