UAH Earns Yet Another Thrilling OT Victory

LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team won an overtime thriller yet again, defeating host West Alabama 74-68 on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 15-5 (12-3 Gulf South Conference), while UWA slips to 11-2 (7-8 GSC).

With 1:36 remaining in regulation and the Chargers trailing by three, Michael Gilmore hit his second 3-pointer of the night to tie the contest at 60-60, ultimately forcing overtime.

UAH then trailed 65-62 in the extra period, but Seab Webster hit back-to-back treys sandwiched around a key Troy Saxton defensive rebound to put the Chargers up 68-65 at the 1:38 mark.

West Alabama would answer as Jake Jobling hit a triple of his own, but on the ensuing possession, Preston Herring scored to put the Chargers in front for good as UAH would hold UWA scoreless its next trip down the floor and then Greg Gardner and Webster both hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the win.

Webster matched a career-high in scoring in the game as he hit a stunning nine 3-pointers en route to scoring 33 points, and he was also strong on the glass as he collected a team-best eight rebounds.

Joining Webster in double figures was Brandon Roberts who scored 12.

Gardner dished out seven assists in the victory, moving his career total to 538 which puts him second all-time in UAH history as he passed James Mundie who registered 536 from 1978-81.

West Alabama led through much of the first half, building up as much as a seven-point advantage before the Chargers were able to narrow the gap down to 26-25 by the halftime break.

UAH then controlled play through a nearly seven-minute long stretch during the second half, using a 17-8 run to take its largest lead of regulation at five – a lead the team would enjoy twice before the Tigers regain the advantage by as many as three before the late dramatics.

The Chargers shot 45.0 percent for the game while holding UWA under 40 percent at 39.0 percent, and the visitors nailed 14 3-pointers compared to 11 for the Tigers who were led by Jobling's 14 on the night.

Rebounding in the game was even at 29-29.

The Chargers will stay on the road during the upcoming week, traveling to Lee on Thursday for a 7 p.m. CST contest. UAH was an 88-75 winner of the Flames in the earlier meeting between the two teams in Huntsville.
