Volleyball Tripped Up Saturday By Visiting Lee

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team fell at home on Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to visiting Lee at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers fall to 14-10 (7-7 Gulf South Conference), while the Flames improve to 10-11 (6-7 GSC).
 
Turning Points
-With the contest tied at 22-22 in the first set, the visiting Flames won the next three points to open up a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-22 victory.
-Lee then opened up a substantial lead in the latter portions of the second set, going up 2-0 in the match with a 25-19 win in the frame.
-After trailing by as many as four points in the third set, the Chargers went on a 5-2 run late in the stanza to pull within one at 22-21, but the Flames again closed out the set with three straight points to win 25-21.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Haley Hop paced the Chargers defensively as she recorded 13 digs on the night, and she was joined in double figures by Kirsten Giles who logged 10.
-Caroline Sanford logged a team-best four total blocks in the contest.
-Anna LeDuc and Caroline Sanford led UAH with six successful attacks.
-Both Rachel Brugman and Anna Claire Johnson recorded a pair of service aces.
-For the match, Lee outhit the Chargers by a .233 to .132 clip, and the visitors also held a 60-49 margin in digs. Blocks were much more narrow with Lee recording eight to UAH's seven.
 
Noteworthy
-Hop's performance marked the 17th time this season that the sophomore has recorded double figures in digs.
-With the four total blocks, Sanford recorded her best performance at the net since logging five total blocks against Mississippi College on Sept. 30.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will be off until next weekend when the team makes its swing through West Tennessee, traveling to Jackson for a 7 p.m. visit to Union on Friday before taking on Christian Brothers in Memphis at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
