ON THE ROAD: The UAH women's soccer team returns to action this weekend, hitting the road to West Tennessee for a 5 p.m. contest at Union on Friday before turning around to face Christian Brothers in Memphis at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Chargers carry a 6-4-0 (2-3-0 Gulf South Conference) record on the road trip.
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers started off last week on the right foot as
Sydney Pfankuch scored a goal and added an assist in the team's 3-1 win over visiting Delta State on Friday, and the team ended up splitting the weekend when Mississippi College defeated UAH 3-0 on Sunday.
Â
GSC STANDINGS UPDATE: The Chargers are currently ninth in the GSC, but the two games this weekend are quite pivotal as Union – with an extra game played – is in fifth with 10 points and Christian Brothers is tied for sixth with nine points earned on the year.
Â
AMONG THE BEST: Pfankuch and
Alexcia Alexander both rank in the top 10 among individuals in scoring in the GSC as Pfankuch ranks in a tie for fifth with 14 points on the season, while Alexander is tied for eighth with her 13 points. Additionally, Alexander's 1.63 points per game is tied for the third-best mark in the GSC.
Â
CLEAN SHEETS: UAH keeper
Larae Breaux is having a fantastic junior campaign, and that fact is highlighted by the four shutouts that she has posted on the year. That total is presently tied for the most in the GSC this season.
Â
ABOUT UNION: The Bulldogs enter Friday at 3-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in GSC play, and the team is 1-1-1 in limited action in Jackson this year. Sarah Hershbain leads the team offensively with five goals, while Kristen Francis has posted three shutouts in goal for UU.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH holds a strong 9-1-0 advantage in the all-time series with Union, and in the last meeting between the two programs – last year in Huntsville – the Chargers were 1-0 winners.
Â
ABOUT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS: The Bucs are 3-7-0 overall, but each of their victories have come in conference play in which CBU is 3-3-0. The team is averaging just 0.90 goals per game, and Crissy Cornacchian paces the squad with two goals on the year.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The series is tilted towards CBU's favor as Sunday's host holds a 15-7-2 advantage against UAH. A season ago in the Rocket City, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
