TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team opened up the 2016-17 campaign on Friday night, falling 66-50 to Claflin in a contest played at Tuskegee. UAH starts out at 0-1, while Claflin begins the year at 1-0.

Turning Point
-The Panthers started out strong, opening up a 17-4 lead by the 3:02 mark of the first quarter to take firm control of the contest en route to their victory.

How It Happened
-UAH would narrow its deficit down to single digits at 19-10 just before the expiration of the opening stanza and then whittled the Claflin lead down to eight at 19-11 just inside of the start of the second quarter, but the Panthers would expand the lead to as many as 20 before holding a 36-19 lead at the break.
-The lead for the Panthers then grew to as many as 24 in the third quarter and 25 in the final frame.
-The Chargers did go on a strong run near the end of the contest, outscoring the opposition 10-3 in a span of just under four minutes to pull within 13 at 61-48 with just over a minute left, but only seven more points would be scored by the two teams in the final 1:22 to produce the 66-50 final.

Inside the Box Score
-UAH was paced offensively on the night by
Chandler Elder who scored 15 on the strength of an 8-for-12 showing at the charity stripe, and she was joined in double figures by
Baylee Johnson who scored 10.

-On the night, Claflin held a 41.3 percent to 32.6 percent advantage in shooting, and the Panthers outrebounded the Chargers by a 47-27 clip.
-The opponent took advantage of the rebounding difference, outscoring the Chargers 25-2 in second-chance points.
