West Georgia Pushes Past UAH with Strong 4th

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team dropped its Gulf South Conference game on Thursday night, falling 63-59 to visiting West Georgia at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers slip to 1-6 (0-2 GSC), while UWG improves to 3-3 (2-0 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-After UAH had turned in an impressive third quarter to go in front, West Georgia outscored the home team 21-2 over the first 8:44 of the fourth quarter to take control of the contest.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Katie Speegle paced the Chargers on the night as she knocked down six shots and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line en route to scoring 16 points.
-The freshman was joined in double figures by junior Chandler Elder who hit a pair of 3-pointers on her way to finishing with 13.
-Morgan Tipton nearly recorded a double-double in the game as she scored eight while grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
-Tipton's rebounding performance helped UAH win the battle on the glass by a 37-30 margin.
-The Chargers finished the evening shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, while UWG connected on 43.9 percent of its attempts.
 
Inside the Flow
-The Wolves built up as much as an 11-point lead in the first quarter and was in front 20-11 at the expiration of the period, but the Chargers outscored UWG 16-13 in the second quarter to trail just 33-27 at the halftime break.
-UAH then put together a dominant third-quarter showing as the Chargers outscored the guests 24-7 in the period thanks to a 17-0 run in the middle of the quarter, and the hosts went into the fourth with a 51-40 lead.
-UWG then went on their significant run in the fourth quarter, using runs of 10-0 and 11-0 to go back up by eight at 61-53 with just 1:32 left in the game.
-The Chargers then outscored UWG 6-2 in the final moments to create the 63-59 final.
 
Noteworthy
-Speegle establishes a new season high in points with the 16 for her second double-digit performance of the year, and her six made field goals is also a season-best mark.
-The 10 rebounds for Tipton mark a new career high for the sophomore.
 
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will look to bounce back on Saturday when West Alabama visits Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The last game before the holiday break is slated for 2 p.m.
