FLORENCE, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team dropped its conference opener on Sunday, falling 70-66 to rival North Alabama. UAH slips to 0-5 (0-1 Gulf South Conference), while UNA improves to 7-0 (1-0 GSC).

Turning Point
-After the Chargers had built up a 39-31 lead at the half, North Alabama outscored the visitors by a 23-6 margin in the third quarter to take control of the contest.

Caroline Dodd led the Chargers offensively on the day as she was one of three players to score in double figures with 17 on the strength of three successful shots from long-range.

Katie Speegle and
Heidi Miller joined Dodd in double figures as both scored 11. Miller had three 3-pointers, while Speegle was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
-With 21 points, KeKe Gunter led the Lions and all scorers in the contest.

Chandler Elder led the Chargers in rebounding as she had seven in the contest.
-For the game, UAH outshot the hosts by a 51.9 percent to 41.2 percent margin and also held a 36-25 advantage on the glass, but a significant 38-7 edge in points off turnovers for the Lions proved to be a major difference in the game.
-North Alabama was 24-for-35 from the free throw line in the contest, while the Chargers were just 2-for-4.

-After the Lions had gone ahead early in the first quarter, a nice pass from
Loren Foster found the freshman Speegle wide open to tie it at 11-11 late in a first quarter after which UNA would ultimately lead 15-13.
-The Chargers then put together one of the best stretches of the season, outscoring UNA 17-6 over the final 7:25 of the second quarter – including an 8-0 run at the end of the period – to hold a 39-31 lead as the teams went into the locker room at the break.
-The halftime advantage was thanks to a strong shooting mark as the Chargers finished the first two quarters hitting their attempts at a 64.0 percent clip.
-After North Alabama had the strong third quarter, the Chargers were able to outscore UNA by a 21-16 margin in the fourth to create the final four-point difference.

Noteworthy
-The 35 attempts at the charity stripe for UNA mark the highest for a Charger opponent since March 1, 2014, against the same program.
-Dodd matched her career-best of 17 points which she also scored on Feb. 20, 2016, against Union, and her seven successful field goals marks a season high by a Charger.
