No. 18 Chargers Welcome UWA Friday & Saturday

LIVE STATS

HOME OPENER:
The 18th-ranked Chargers will be in action at Charger Park for the first time in 2016 this weekend as the squad welcomes West Alabama for a three-game set. Due to temperatures forecast to be quite frigid on Saturday, the teams will play a doubleheader on Friday now with the first game slated for a 2 p.m. start with a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. UAH enters the weekend with an 8-2 mark.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK: The Chargers are on a five-game winning streak after going 5-1 last weekend at Gulf Shores with the team's lone setback coming to defending national champion North Georgia.

AROUND THE GSC: The conference has fared well in the first two weeks of non-conference action with all but two of the 12 league teams owning a record of .500 or better, and five teams – UAH, Valdosta State, West Florida, North Alabama, and West Georgia – are all at .800 or better on the year.

EARLY LEADERS: Through the 10 games, UAH features a team batting average of .330 – good for third in the conference – with three players hitting better than .400 on the year. The Chargers are paced by freshman Taylor Wascavage who is hitting .464 on the year, while senior Abby Roberts is batting .462 and junior Tyler Harrison is hitting .452.

LEADING THE LEAGUE: Senior Savannah Smith has had a strong start to 2016, and that is seen by her position at the top of the GSC in both runs (15) and RBI (17). The Guin, Alabama, native has scored in six of UAH's 10 contests while knocking in at least one run in five of the team's games.

STREAKING ALREADY: Tyler Harrison is off to a great 2016 in the circle, picking up three straight wins heading into the weekend to boast a 4-2 record to go along with her 1.40 ERA. The senior has struck out a season-high six batters in four contests, and she owns five complete games.

ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: UWA enters this weekend with a 4-2 mark, and the team has won three straight including a mid-week sweep of Tuskegee. Among those players with at least 10 at-bats, Libby Davis is pacing the Tigers with a .500 average including two homers and six RBI, while Andrea Edmonds has an 0.62 ERA to go along with a 2-0 record in the circle.

SERIES HISTORY: This weekend's set will feature the 73rd, 74th, and 75th all-time meetings between the two programs, and UAH owns an impressive 63-9 mark against the Tigers.
