HUNTSVILLE | For the sixth time in the past seven years, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team has won the regular season Gulf South Conference title as the team secured the conference tournament's top seed with a 73-63 victory over visiting Mississippi College that also lifted UAH to its eighth straight win.

The Chargers improve to 19-5 (16-3 GSC), while the Choctaws slip to 7-14 (6-13 GSC).

The program recorded regular season titles in four straight years from the 2009-10 to 2012-13 seasons, and now the team has won back-to-back crowns after also capturing the championship a season ago. In Saturday's win, UAH was led by Madison County High School product Seab Webster as the junior continued his torrid ways with 25 points and nine rebounds to average nearly 20 points per game during the winning streak. Webster was joined in double figures by Michael Gilmore who came off the bench to score 10, while the guests were paced by Jonathan McGee's 18 points.

Greg Gardner was once again strong at the point, dishing out nine assists to help the Chargers total 20 on the team's 25 successful field goal attempts.

Mississippi College's only lead of the game right out of the gates as the Choctaws scored the contest's opening points, but the Chargers would go in front by the 17:24 mark of the half en route to a 32-28 advantage at the halftime break.

UAH then opened the second half on a 13-2 run to go up 45-30 with 16:25 left in the contest, and though MC would pull to within four at 49-45 with 11:52 remaining, the visitors would be able to come no closer as the margin eventually ballooned to as many as 16 points in the closing stages.

UAH shot just 39.1 percent for the game compared to Mississippi College's 40.0 percent shooting mark, but the Chargers were aided by 16 made 3-pointers including seven from Webster.

Winning the battle on the glass, the Chargers outrebounded MC by a 39-35 margin, and the hosts collected 12 offensive rebounds that aided in extending several possessions late in the game while running the clock down.

UAH returns to action on Thursday when the squad travels to Christian Brothers to start the final road trip of the regular season. The tip is slated for 7 p.m. in Memphis.
