HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team opened a three-game series against Tuskegee with a 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park. UAH improves to 2-3, while TU dips to 2-3.
Senior
Wilson Adams continued his stellar start to the 2016 campaign, holding Tuskegee hitless over 6.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts and two walks. Adams was tagged with one unearned run in the contest, while improving his record to 2-0 on the season.
After a pair of scoreless frames for both squads in the first and second, senior
Zach Dugas gave UAH a 2-0 lead with a two-RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the third.
The Chargers were able to add to their lead in the fourth inning, with
Tanner Gardner extending the lead to 3-0 with a bloop RBI single to right.
Tuskegee went on to add a run in the sixth on a fielding error at shortstop by Gardner, but Gardner was able to help UAH regain the three-run advantage at 4-1 with a RBI single to left in the bottom of the eighth.
Freshman
Taylor Clemons recorded his first career save in the win on Friday, after hurling the final 3.0 innings with three hits allowed, two strikeouts and one walk. Clemons has not allowed a run in 6.1 innings pitched to begin the 2016 season.
The Chargers managed a total of eight hits in the game, with Gardner pacing the Blue and White with a season-high three base knocks.
UAH and Tuskegee will wrap up the three-game set on Sunday at Charger Park with a doubleheader slated to begin at 11 a.m.
