UAH Breaks Single Game Run Record, Sweeps Tuskegee

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team completed the nonconference sweep of Tuskegee on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park by consecutive scores of 30-4 and 10-3. UAH improves to 4-3 on the year, while TU slips to 2-5.

Game one
The Chargers 30 runs in game one of the doubleheader broke the program record for runs in a single game, besting the previous mark of 29 set on Feb. 25, 1996 against Kentucky Wesleyan.
UAH started strong with a five-run rally to open the contest, as Austin Sanders, AJ Walden, Justin Cantrell and Parker Farley notched RBI base hits in the bottom of the first to give UAH an early 5-0 lead.

The Tigers bounced back in the second with four runs, two earned, off UAH starting pitcher Heath McRae before the Chargers mounted rallies of six runs in the second, another six in the third, seven runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 24-4.

The Chargers went on to add two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth en route to the record-setting 30-4 victory.

Justin Cantrell led the way for the UAH offense with a 5-for-6 performance with four RBI and five runs scored. Matt Spruill had a strong game as well belting his first homer in the Blue and White in a 3-for-4 outing at the dish, with four other Chargers recording multi-hit games.

McRae moved to 1-1 on the year with the victory in the seven-inning contest with 4.0 innings pitched, two earned runs, zero walks and four strikeouts. Logan Crook and Landon Boggs combined to provide 3.0 scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts.

Game two
The Chargers continued to have success on offense in game two of the doubleheader posting one run in each of the first three innings to own a 3-0 advantage heading into the fourth. Trey Mathis provided the first run of the game on a RBI single through the right side, while Josh Giegling added a RBI sac fly in the second and Cantrell notched a RBI single to center in the bottom of the third.

Tuskegee rebounded in the fifth with a run on a Jalen Luter RBI single to centerfield, but the Chargers went on to plate three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to take a commanding 10-1 lead over the Tigers.

The visitors went on to score a pair of runs in the seventh off UAH reliever Chase McRae to bring the game to its 10-3 final.

Will Myers made the start for the Blue and White on the mound, hurling 6.0 innings with one unearned run, a season-high nine strikeouts and zero walks. Myers' record improves to 2-0 on the year.

UAH registered a total of 14 base hits in the contest, as Mathis had a team-high three hits and three RBI. Austin Sanders also had a strong game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

The Chargers will play their first midweek contest of the season on Wednesday with a trip to Mobile, Alabama to take on Spring Hill at 1 p.m. UAH will then jump into GSC play next Saturday and Sunday at Charger Park with a visit from Lee.
