Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 23 UAH Falls on the Road Saturday at Union

JACKSON, Tenn. | The No. 23 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team had its nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the team fell 92-84 at Union. The Chargers slip to 20-6 (17-4 Gulf South Conference), while UU improves to 19-8 (13-8 GSC).

UAH will now turn its attention to the conclusion of the regular season as the Chargers host North Alabama next Saturday at 4 p.m.

In the setback on Saturday, the Chargers were led by Greg Gardner as the senior poured in a career-best 28 points on the strength of a 5-for-10 showing from beyond the arc, and he also collected five rebounds and dished out two assists.

Joining him in double figures were Seab Webster who scored 15 and Brandon Roberts who tallied 10 while grabbing a team-best six rebounds.

The Bulldogs were paced by Jordan Montgomery who scored 23, while Marterrace Brock added 22.

Union led throughout the majority of the contest, starting out strong by grabbing a 23-9 lead just over seven minutes into the contest, and the lead would grow to as many as 16 in the opening half before an 11-0 run for the Chargers would help make it a 44-34 lead for the Bulldogs at the half.

The advantage again ballooned to 16 for Union early on in the second half before the visitors were able to narrow the gap to single digits and as low as two points in the final minute, but UU was able to hold off the comeback in earning the victory.

After the Bulldogs started off the game shooting better than 70 percent at one point, it was UAH who finished with the better field goal percentage, recording a 48.3 percent mark compared to a 46.0 percent shooting percentage for the hosts.

Union, however, held a wide 44-26 margin on the glass and converted that into a significant 18-6 difference in second-chance points.
