BACK AT IT:
The 18th-ranked Chargers will continue early action this weekend with six games in three days at the Gulf Coast Invitation at Orange Beach, Alabama, hosted by Spring Hill College. UAH will take on No. 1 North Georgia at noon on Friday before playing Simon Fraser at 2:15 p.m. On Saturday the Chargers will play McKendree at 2:30 p.m. and Spring Hill at 4:45 p.m., and the team wraps up the weekend with contests against Rockhurst and Flagler at 9 and 11:15 a.m., respectively, on Sunday.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK: UAH started the year off 3-1 after picking up wins over Columbus State, North Georgia, and Augusta State last weekend at the PBC-GSC Southern Softball Showdown. UAH outscored the opposition 38-13, and 10 difference Chargers scored at least a run.

AROUND THE GSC: North Alabama is off to the league's best start, owning a 4-0 overall record, while Valdosta State (5-1), UAH (4-1), and Union (1-1) all have just one loss after the season's first week.

QUITE THE START: Savannah Smith earned GSC Player of the Week honors after batting .636 in the four games last weekend. The Guin, Alabama, native belted three home runs, drove in 11 runs, and scored eight times. The performance is indicative of Smith's strong improvement from her first season in Huntsville as she recorded 14 RBI and 12 runs in 2015.

FRESH FACES: Jada Hayes and Taylor Wascavage were named as top newcomers to the GSC in the preseason, and they both had strong starts by batting .333 last weekend. Hayes drove in four runs in the four games, while Wascavage scored three times including on her first collegiate home run.

AGAINST THE FIELD: UAH will be matching up with each of this weekend's opponents for the first time in program history with the lone exception being North Georgia. UAH moved to 13-8 all-time against UNG after defeating the defending national champions 16-7 in five innings last weekend.
