ROME, Ga. | Extending its winning streak to six games with five players scoring in double figures, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team defeated host Shorter 96-78 on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 17-5 (14-3 Gulf South Conference) with the victory, while Shorter falls to 11-12 (6-11 GSC).
 
UAH is now three games ahead of second place at the top of the GSC standings with five league games left to play.
 
For the fourth straight game the Chargers were paced in scoring by 
Seab Webster as the junior recorded his second double-double of the season with 24 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Webster was strong from beyond the arc again, knocking down six 3-pointers on 10 attempts.
 
Webster was joined in double figures on the night by 
Brandon Roberts who scored 17 and pulled down eight rebounds, while 
Kip Owens buried four treys to score 12. 
Troy Saxton added 11, and 
Chayse Elliott scored 10.
 
Greg Gardner had seven of UAH's 16 assists, and he was one of six other Chargers who scored in the contest.
 
For Shorter, Amonte Potter scored 21, while the Chargers held the GSC's leading scorer Phil Taylor to 13 which is well below his season average of more than 26 per contest.
 
UAH started off strong in the contest that saw them lead wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 19-12 lead by the 14:22 mark of the opening, but Shorter would go on an 11-6 run over the next four minutes to cut the deficit to just two at 25-23 near the midway point of the opening half.
 
The Chargers then ripped off a 16-6 string of points to go up by 12 for its largest lead of the half en route to taking a 47-38 lead into the locker room at the break.
 
UAH then would lead by double figures throughout much of the second half, leading by as many as 26 points on the way to the win.
 
In the contest UAH outshot the hosts by a 56.3 percent to 40.6 percent margin, and the Chargers were an impressive 16-for-33 from beyond the arc. Additionally, the Blue and White outrebounded Shorter, holding a 39-35 advantage on the glass.
 
UAH will now turn its attention to Delta State as the Chargers return home for the first time since Jan. 23, and the contest on Thursday against the Statesmen is slated for 7:30 p.m. DSU outlasted UAH 82-74 in an overtime classic in Cleveland on Jan. 4.
