HUNTSVILLE | The No. 9 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team split a doubleheader against West Florida at Charger Park on Saturday afternoon to open a three-game Gulf South Conference series, taking the opener 4-2 before falling in the second game 4-3. UAH is now 17-6 (9-2 GSC), while UWF moves to 13-8 (7-4 GSC).

Game oneÂ
After West Florida took the early lead with one run in the top of the first, UAH quickly gained the advantage with a bases-loaded, two-RBI single by
Wright Hackett in the bottom half of the inning.

The Chargers later added to the lead with a solo homer by Walden in the bottom of the third and a RBI single by
Zach Dugas in the sixth to make it a 4-1 advantage over the Argonauts.

West Florida went on to add one run in the eighth on a John Price sacrifice fly, which gave the game its 4-2 final.

UAH benefitted from a stellar starting performance by
Wilson Adams who twirled 8.0 innings with one earned run allowed, one walk and six strikeouts in a 118-pitch outing. Adams improves to 4-1 on the season with the win.

Freshman
Taylor Clemons finished off the game in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season, while striking out one batter and extending streak of not allowing an earned run to start his collegiate career to 17.1 innings.

The Blue and White totaled 13 hits on the afternoon, led by
Matt Spruill with a 3-for-5 performance, while Hackett led the team in runs driven in with two in a 2-for-4 day at the plate.

Game twoÂ
The Chargers were on the board first in the second game as Walden delivered a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the first, before
Tanner Gardner pushed the UAH lead to 3-0 with a RBI single to right in the second.

However, a four-run third by the Argonauts gave the visitors the 4-3 lead which went on to be the final score in the second game.

Junior
Will Myers was tagged with the loss to bring his season record to 4-2 after tossing 2.2 innings with three hits allowed, four earned runs, four walks and one strikeout.

Chris Kilpatrick had a strong performance out of the bullpen after Myers' exit in the third inning, as the right-hander worked 4.1 shutout innings with two strikeouts and zero walks.

UAH managed a total of six hits in the contest, with Walden pacing the squad with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI. Walden now has seven home runs this season to pace the UAH offense.
