PHOTOSHUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team rolled to a tournament-opening win on Saturday, defeating Saint Leo 98-81 in the NCAA Division II South Regional Quarterfinals held at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. UAH improves to 24-7, while SLU drops to 19-12.

UAH advances to the regional semifinal where it will take on the winner of West Georgia and Stillman on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. back at Spragins Hall.

The Chargers knocked down 12 3-pointers in the contest, and the 98-point performance represents an NCAA tournament record for the Chargers whose previous high was 91 in an overtime game against Minnesota State in the 2011 Elite Eight.
Seab Webster was one of four players to score in double figures for the Chargers as he was 8-for-11 from the field including four treys while also going 10-for-10 at the charity stripe en route to scoring 30 points.

Adding 16 to go along with seven assists was
Greg Gardner, while
Michael Gilmore and
Justin Ward came off the bench to score 12 and 11, respectively.

UAH scored the first eight points of the game, and the team led by as many as 21 points in the opening half on its way to holding a 42-28 lead at the halftime break thanks to 12 points from Webster in the period.

The advantage would expand again back to 19 at 58-39 with 12:23 left in the second half, but the Lions – paced by Tyreece Bryce's 31 – would go on a 10-1 run over the next two minutes to pull back within 10 at 59-49 near the midway point of the stanza.

A Gilmore triple would stem the tide, however, and Saint Leo was unable to pull back to within single digits the rest of the way.

For the contest, UAH shot 54.4 percent overall and 44.4 percent from 3-point land, while after being held to a 34.5 percent showing in the first half, Saint Leo finished the night connecting on 44.6 percent of its attempts.

The battle on the glass was even at 35-35 with
Seab Webster grabbing eight rebounds in leading the Chargers.

UAH dominated the inside game, outscoring Saint Leo 38-20 in the paint, and the Chargers also had an 18-0 advantage on fast break points.
