HUNTSVILLE | Led by a game-best 23-point performance by
Greg Gardner, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team punched its ticket to its fourth regional championship in the past six seasons on Sunday night, knocking off Stillman 81-71 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in the South Regional semifinals. UAH improves to 25-7, while Stillman ends the year at 28-6.

Top-seeded UAH will now play the No. 3 seed Barry on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Spragins for a berth to the 2016 NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

Gardner turned in a terrific performance, knocking down five of UAH's nine 3-pointers on his way to scoring the 23 points, and he narrowly missed out on a double-double as he grabbed nine rebounds while three assists and two steals.

Brandon Roberts and
Seab Webster joined him in double figures as both scored 13.

Stillman was paced on the night by Rodnerius Lewis who UAH held to 14 points.

After the Tigers scored the first basket of the game, the Chargers went on a 9-0 run to go ahead 9-3 at the 16:28 mark, and the advantage would reach double figures after a 7-0 run allowed the hosts to move its cushion to 16-6. In fact, a Gardner triple with 3:54 left in the half would provide UAH with an 11-point lead, but Stillman closed the period on a 7-0 run of its own to create a 30-26 score in favor of the Blue and White at the half.

The margin for UAH would float around double figures through the first 10 minutes of the second stanza, but with Stillman narrowing the gap to 52-45, the Chargers ripped off a 12-2 run that saw
Preston Herring – who recorded four blocks in the game – score five points while giving UAH a 17-point advantage by the 7:31 mark.

The Chargers would lead by as many as 21 down the stretch in securing the victory.

UAH shot 43.9 percent for the night, while Stillman connected on 41.9 percent of its tries while also outrebounding the Chargers by a slim 44-43 margin.
