HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team fell to West Florida in the three-game series finale by a final score of 13-6 at Charger Park in a Gulf south Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. UAH slips to 17-7 (9-3 GSC), while UWF climbs to 14-8 (8-4 GSC).
 
After a scoreless first inning by UAH starting pitcher Heath McRae, the Chargers quickly loaded the bases to setup a grand slam for Wright Hackett in the bottom half of the frame to take an early 4-0 advantage.
 
The Blue and White were able to extend the lead to 6-0 with a pair of runs in the second as Matt Spruill notched an RBI triple down the right-field line before Austin Sanders drove in Spruill from third on a sac bunt.
 
Both sides went scoreless in the third, fourth and fifth innings, until West Florida jumped on the board with one run in the sixth prior to erupting for a 10-run rally in the seventh to overtake the Chargers lead at 11-6. The Argos went on to add two runs in the ninth to bring the game to its 13-6 final.
 
McRae was credited with a no-decision in the contest, after tossing an efficient 6.0 innings with three earned runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Freshman Taylor Clemons was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs – one earned – in 0.2 innings out of the bullpen.
 
UAH totaled nine hits in the contest with Spruill leading the way with a 3-for-4 performance, two runs scored, one RBI and one walk. Hackett led the squad in runs driven in with a season-best four RBI while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
The Chargers are on the road for the following eight games, beginning with a nonconference trek to Nashville, Tennessee to take on Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
