No. 20 UAH Tripped Up at TNU on Wednesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. | The No. 20 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team lost to Trevecca Nazarene in a 4-3 nonconference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. UAH slips to 17-8, while TNU improves to 9-7.

Senior Matt Spruill led the Chargers offense with a 3-for-5 performance with two RBI, while Austin Sanders and Wright Hackett each had two hits at the plate.

Trevecca Nazarene was first on the board with one run in the bottom of the first, which UAH was able to negate with a run of its own in the top of the third as Zach Dugas was plated on an error with Sanders at the dish.

However, the Trojans quickly regained the advantage with two more runs in the bottom half of the third for a 3-1 lead prior to both sides going scoreless in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The Chargers were able to tie the contest in the eighth on a two-run triple by Spruill, but TNU plated another run in the bottom half of the inning off reliever Brent Elder for the eventual 4-3 victory. Elder was tagged with the loss to slip his season record to 0-1.

Reliever Austin Whitlock had a strong performance out of the UAH bullpen, tossing 3.1 shutout innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts after starter Gabe Guneter worked 2.2 innings with three runs allowed.

UAH looks to jump back into Gulf South Conference play with a trip to Delta State for a three-game set this weekend with a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday.
