ROME, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team lost 3-2 in the series finale at Shorter on Saturday afternoon to cap off the three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH dips to 19-12 (11-7 GSC), while SU improves to 11-19 (5-13 GSC).
After Shorter took the early lead with one run in the first, the Chargers proceeded to quickly eclipse the advantage with a pair runs in the top of the second.
Tanner Gardner evened the score with a RBI single to center, before
Zach Dugas was able to score on an error by Shorter's second baseman Jacob Ramos to make it a 2-1 Charger lead.
The Hawks rebounded to tie the game at 2-2 with a run in the third, which was followed by scoreless frames from both sides in the fourth and fifth innings. The hosts went on to take the decisive lead in the bottom of the sixth as Raul Cortes notched an RBI double in the frame.
UAH starting pitcher
Will Myers took the loss to slip to 4-4 on the season, despite tossing 5.2 innings with two earned runs, two hits and five strikeouts.
Logan Crook and
Chris Kilpatrick combined for 2.1 scoreless frames out of the pen to finish off the contest.
The Chargers offense was led by Gardner, who went 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and a pair of walks.
UAH looks ahead to four games in the coming week, beginning with a midweek matchup at Stillman on Wednesday before hosting rival North Alabama in a three-game GSC set on Saturday and Sunday.
