HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's lacrosse team dropped a home contest to visiting Colorado State Pueblo on Saturday, falling 18-8 at Charger Park. The Chargers slip to 1-5, while the ThunderWolves improve to 2-5.
Â
UAH will return to action on Friday when the team travels to Alderson Broaddus for a 3 p.m. CDT tilt.
Â
Daniel Wilson, Jr. led the scoring effort for the Chargers on the day, registering his third multi-goal performance of the season while becoming the first UAH player to score four goals in a game.
Â
Wilson, Jr. now leads UAH with 10 goals on the year while also featuring a team-best 11 points.
Â
After CSU Pueblo scored the opener, Wilson, Jr. put the Chargers ahead 2-1 with strikes at the 7:42 and 4:52 marks of the opening quarter, and after the visitors scored three straight, the Cumming, Ga., native scored his third of the game to pull UAH back within one at 4-3 with 12:32 left in the second quarter.
Â
Kevin Coppinger assisted on the score.
Â
Another pair of goals by the visitors would make it 6-3 before
James Cox tallied his second of the season to produce a 6-4 score at the half.
Â
The first goal of the third quarter belonged to the ThunderWolves, but Wilson, Jr. would score his fourth of the day and Coppinger scored just over a minute later at the 8:40 mark to bring UAH within one again at 7-6.
Â
That would be the closest margin of the remainder of the game, however, as the guests scored nine unanswered to take complete control of the contest before
Collin Wilcox and
Jack Bishop added man-up goals late in fourth to round out the scoring for the Chargers.
Â
Coppinger finished the day matching Wilson, Jr. in points as he recorded three assists and the goal for four, while Bishop also added an assist to notch two points on the day.
Â
Dylan Aden also earned a point as he assisted on Wilson, Jr.'s third of the game.
Â
The ThunderWolves held a 53-24 advantage in shots including a 39-16 edge in shots on goal as
Michl McNeil racked up 20 saves, and CSU Pueblo also enjoyed a 37-26 margin in ground balls with
Colton Nall's five pacing the Chargers.
Â
In clear attempts, CSU Pueblo was 19-for-21, while UAH was 22-for-29.
