Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

UAH Falls in GSC Championship to West Georgia

HOMEWOOD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team attempted to pull off another stunning second-half comeback on Saturday, but West Georgia was able to hold off the Chargers in a 99-82 victory that gave UWG the 2016 VisitSpaceCoast.com Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championships title.

UAH drops to 23-7 on the season and will now await word on its NCAA tournament fate, while UWG improves to 22-8.

The Chargers were led in the contest by Seab Webster who scored 26 points on his way to landing on the all-tournament team on which he was joined by Brandon Roberts who also scored in double figures in the game as he tallied 13.

Kip Owens matched Roberts in scoring to round out UAH's double figure scorers.

After the second-seeded Wolves led 56-38 at the half, UWG would expand its lead to 24 at 65-41 with 16:13 left in the contest, but as the Chargers have done throughout the year, the team showed great resiliency and over the next 11 minutes outscored the opposition 33-13 to narrow the gap to 78-74 with just over five minutes left in the game.

Marcus Dortch – who led the Wolves with 24 points – then went down and made an improbable 3-pointer fall to spark an 8-0 run for West Georgia that put the team back up by double digits for good at the 3:37 mark.

For the contest, UAH shot 46.8 percent compared to West Georgia who shot 57.6 percent on the night, and the Wolves also held a 36-30 advantage on the glass. UWG's bench scored 68 points on the night to outscore UAH's reserves by 47.

The Chargers will now wait to see where the team will be seeded in next weekend's Division II South Regional, and the field for the national tournament will be announced via a selection show on NCAA.com on Sunday at 9:30 p.m.

UAH will be looking to make its sixth appearance in the NCAA tournament in the past seven seasons.
