HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams will start play at the 2016 Gulf South Conference Championships on Thursday at the O'Connor Tennis Center at Lagoon Park. The fourth-seeded women's team will take on No. 5 seed North Alabama at 1:30 p.m. while the eighth-seeded men's squad will battle top-seed West Florida at 9 a.m.
 
The women's team finished the regular season at 10-10 overall, but the squad was an impressive 7-3 in GSC play including a signature win over Valdosta State earlier in the year.
 
Three players have reached double digits in wins in singles action on the year for the Chargers with 
Cristina Cabanas leading the way with a 16-4 mark, while 
Marta Briega is 15-5 – including a 9-1 record in conference action. 
Marleen Gort notched 10 wins competing at the top spot.
 
Gort also reached double figures in victories in her doubles matches, going 12-7 and 7-2 in GSC play.
 
The Chargers knocked off UNA earlier in the year, winning 5-4 in Florence.
 
On the men's side, UAH is making its eighth straight appearance in the conference tournament with a 9-0 blanking of Christian Brothers earlier in the season helping the team into the tournament.
 
Both 
Noah Pring and 
Harrison Stone pace the team with seven wins in singles play, and both went 4-4 in conference action. In doubles, 
Rodrigo Palomino teamed up with Stone for seven wins including a 4-4 mark in GSC contests.
