HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams fell to visiting Shorter on Saturday as the men dropped a narrow 5-4 decision while the women also lost a close contest at 6-3 to the country's 26th-ranked team. The men slip to 2-13 (1-6 Gulf South Conference), while the women go to 8-9 (6-2 GSC).

Both teams will be back in action on Monday when West Alabama visits.

In the men's contest, the Chargers earned their first point in doubles play when
Rodrigo Palomino and
Harrison Stone teamed up for a dominant 8-1 victory at the third position, but the Hawks won the other two doubles matches to go in front 2-1.

Both teams then won three points each in singles play to create the 5-4 final tilted in Shorter's favor.

Noah Pring earned UAH's biggest win as he was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the No. 6 match, while
Harrison Stone was a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 winner at the fifth position. At the No. 2 spot,
Elliot Hopson won the first set 7-5 and then bounced back from a second-set 6-3 setback to win 6-3 in the third to take the point.

In the women's match, Shorter swept the doubles points to go ahead 3-0 before the teams also split the singles contests evenly.

At the sixth position,
Marta Briega cruised to a 6-0 win in the opening set before holding on in a 7-5 victory in the second, and
Marleen Gort in the No. 1 contest and
Naomi Esteve at the fifth spot were also winners as Gort was victorious 7-5, 3-6, 10-2 and Esteve won 6-4, 1-6, 10-5.
