YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team is set for play in the inaugural Gulf South Conference invitational tournament as the second seed on Friday at 6 p.m. CST in a game against third-seeded Shorter on the campus of host Young Harris.

The UAH squad finished its first-ever regular season of play 13-3 overall and 2-1 within the GSC, while boasting the highest-scoring team in NCAA Division II with 17.20 goals per game.

The Chargers had a total of three players awarded by the conference following the season, with
Nicole Federovitch garnering GSC Freshman of the Year and was joined by
Megan Hartnett and
Natalie Pachinger as an All-GSC honoree.

Federovitch paces the UAH offense with a league-leading 77 points from 67 goals and 10 assists in 2016, while ranking third nationally and first in the GSC in goals per game with an average of 4.47. Pachinger has been a force overall for the Charger, as she's rated in the top three in the league in ground balls per game (4.13), caused turnovers per game (1.56) and draw controls per game (3.94) to go along with second in the GSC with 4.25 points per game.

Freshman
Haleigh Comp has started and played the full time in goal for the Chargers for the duration of the campaign, and she has posted a league-best 8.50 goals against average and a .438 save percentage. Comp was named GSC Defender of the Week twice in 2016.
The Hawks open the GSC Invitational with an overall record of 3-9 (1-2 GSC) and a record of 1-2 within the league, following a loss to Young Harris on Saturday to wrap up the regular season slate. SU has both the GSC Player of the Year in Crystal Marshall (45 goals) and the GSC Defender of the Year in Alex Abbey (35 caused turnovers, 32 draw controls) on its roster.

UAH defeated Shorter earlier in the season in the programs' inaugural meeting by a final score of 12-10 on Feb. 24. Pachinger led the attack in the victory with six goals, followed by Federovitch's two goals and two assists for four points.

The winner of the UAH/Shorter matchup looks ahead to a 12 p.m. GSC Invitational Championship game on Sunday against the victor of the Young Harris (1)/Montevallo (4) contest.
