ELKINS, W. Va. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team picked up the first road win in program history on Sunday as
Kevin Coppinger scored just 43 seconds into overtime to lift UAH to a 10-9 win at Davis & Elkins. The Chargers improve to 2-6, while D&E slips to 0-5.
Â
After giving up the tying goal with just under two minutes left to go in the game, the Chargers did not flinch and won for the second time in overtime this season when
Colton Nall assisted on Coppinger's fourth goal of the game.
Â
With the four-goal performance, Coppinger becomes the second Charger this year to record that many scores in a game, and he also added three assists to notch a UAH season-high seven points.
Â
Coppinger now leads UAH with 20 points, and his 12 goals on the year sits just one behind
Daniel Wilson, Jr., who scored twice in the win on Sunday to own 13.
Â
It was a goal from Wilson, Jr., that lifted UAH to an early lead in the first quarter, and Coppinger assisted on
Dylan Aden's score before scoring an unassisted tally of his own to put the Chargers in front 3-2 after the first quarter.
Â
That lead would expand by a pair as Coppinger and
Quincy Ward scored the only goals of the second quarter to lift the visitors to a 5-2 advantage at the halftime break, but Davis & Elkins then went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 7-5 by the 6:29 mark of the third quarter.
Â
Ward stopped the run by scoring just over a minute later for his 11th of the season, and Coppinger then set-up
Collin Wilcox's game-tying goal with a minute elapsed in the fourth quarter before assisting on Wilson, Jr.'s, go-ahead strike at the 12:06 mark.
Â
D&E had an answer to that score and to Coppinger's with 3:37 left to knot the contest at 9-9.
Â
UAH will now return home to face Young Harris next Saturday in a contest that is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Charger Park.
