HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team split a doubleheader against No. 21 West Alabama on Saturday at Charger Park, with the hosts taking the series opener by 4-2 and slipping in the finale by a final score of 5-2. UAH is now 31-17 (21-11 GSC), while UWA sits at 34-13 (22-10 GSC).
Game one
Senior
Wilson Adams continued to be dominant down the stretch as the right-hander notched his sixth straight game of 7.0 innings or more with two runs allowed or less by hurling 7.1 innings with two runs allowed and seven strikeouts compared to one walk. Adams improved to 10-2 on the year with the win.
After a scoreless first inning by both sides, the Chargers were able to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run to left field by Mathis for his ninth round-tripper of the season.
UAH would extend the advantage to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Zach Dugas notched a sac fly and
Michael Fox recorded a RBI single to center field.
The Tigers responded with two runs of their own in the fifth on a two-run homer by Adam Chamblee to slim the Chargers lead to the eventual 4-2 final.
UAH benefitted from a strong outing out of the bullpen by
Taylor Clemons, who notched his GSC-leading eighth save of the season after tossing the final 1.2 innings with one hit allowed, two strikeouts and zero walks. Clemons reduced his bullpen-low ERA to 0.90 with his performance in the win.
Mathis led the way for UAH at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two RBI, while Fox finished the game going 2-for-3 at the dish with one RBI.
Game two
Both squads started off the game going scoreless in the first, second and third innings, but UAH broke the scoreless tie with a two-run home run by Dugas in the bottom of the fourth for a 2-0 lead.
However, West Alabama proceeded to cut the lead to 2-1 with a solo shot by Marcus Morisette in the fifth, followed by a three-run rally in the sixth to overtake the host's advantage at 4-2. The Tigers went on to score one insurance run in the seventh to bring the game to its 5-2 final.

Will Myers took the loss to slip his season record to 7-5 in the 2016 campaign, with the left-hander working 5.1 innings with four runs allowed, two walks and three strikeouts.
The Chargers totaled six hits in the second game on Saturday, led again by Mathis who went 2-for-3 at the plate with one run scored.
UAH and UWA will meet again tomorrow for the rubber match of the three-game series as first pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at Charger Park on Saturday.
