BACK AT IT: The No. 12 UAH softball team is set for five games in four days as the team will host Miles at 2 p.m. on Thursday for a doubleheader, and the Chargers will then travel to Valdosta State for a three-game set starting with a 12 p.m. CDT doubleheader on Saturday and ending with a single game at 12 p.m. CDT on Sunday. UAH enters the slate of games at 31-9 overall and 17-7 in conference play.
Â
RANKINGS UPDATE: The NFCA released its newest Top 25 Division II Coaches Poll on Wednesday, and the Chargers slipped one spot to No. 12. UAH is one of three Gulf South Conference schools in the poll as North Alabama is sixth and Delta State is now 20th.
Â
STANDINGS UPDATE: With three conference weekends remaining, the Chargers find themselves sitting in third behind first-place North Alabama who is 21-3 in league play and Delta State who is second at 19-5. UAH's 17-7 record is a game ahead of West Florida in fourth at 16-8, and if the postseason started today, Valdosta State (14-8-1) and Shorter (14-10) would round out the GSC tournament field in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Â
NATION'S LEADER: With 52 RBI on the season, junior
Kaitlyn Bannister leads the conference and indeed the nation in the statistical category, and the reining GSC Player of the Year has logged an impressive 12 multi-RBI games. Of those, Bannister has two in which she drove in five runs, and she knocked in a season-high six against Simon Fraser on Feb. 5.
Â
TWO-OUT MAGIC: Fourteen of Bannister's RBI have come with two outs, ranking her second on the team behind
Jada Hayes who has knocked in 15 in those situations, while
Tyler Harrison is tied with Bannister with 14. As a team, the Chargers have 98 two-out RBI compared to 45 for the opposition.
Â
ABOUT MILES: The Golden Bears are 13-26 and 5-6 on the road, and the team will play a doubleheader against Stillman on Wednesday before travelling to the Rocket City – a team Miles swept its most recent time out. Kathryne Lambert leads the team offensively, batting .455 and driving in 13 runs.
Â
