UAH Cruises to 15-5 Victory over Miles Thursday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team cruised to a 15-5, seven-inning victory over Miles on Thursday afternoon at Charger Park to extend the squad's win streak to five games. UAH improves to 24-13, while MC slips to 22-12.

The Chargers had a pair of exceptional performances at the plate, as Ben Rhodes and Michael Fox each went 4-for-4 with three runs scored against the Golden Bears. Fox also tied AJ Walden with a game-high three RBI.

UAH jumped on the board first in the bottom of the opening frame with a RBI triple by Walden off the center field wall, prior to the Blue and White extending the lead to 3-0 on back-to-back RBI doubles by Fox and Tanner Gardner in the bottom of the second.

Miles was able to cut the lead to 3-1 with a single run in the top of the third, but the Chargers negated that tally and improved the advantage to 5-1 in the bottom half on a sac fly by Zach Dugas and a RBI infield single by Fox.

The Golden Bears were able to draw within one with three runs in the top of the fourth that cut the lead to 5-4.

However, UAH would quickly rebound with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth as Walden mashed a two-run homer to center and Trey Mathis added a solo shot to left. Wright Hackett was later able to score on a stolen-base attempt by Justin Cantrell to make it a four-run rally and give UAH an 8-4 advantage.

The Chargers went on to score an additional four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a commanding 15-4 lead, which was cut into with one unearned run in the seventh by Miles en route to the seven-inning, 15-5 victory for the Blue and White.

Riley Camp earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the 2016 season with 1.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, after relieving UAH starting pitcher Gabe Gunter who tossed 3.1 innings with four runs allowed, three walks and one strikeout.

UAH returns to Gulf South Conference play with a trip to Valdosta State this weekend for a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at noon.
