STARTING THE NEW YEAR: The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team – under the direction of new head coach Chris Kranjc – will start the 2016 campaign with a pair of home matches, welcoming Trevecca Nazarene in the season opener on Thursday night at 7:30 and then hosting No. 25 Lynn at 2 p.m. on Monday. UAH has won its last three home openers

MEET THE NEW SKIPPER: Thursday's contest will be the first for Kranjc as he leads the Chargers now after spending 17 tremendously successful seasons at NAIA power Hastings College in Nebraska. At Hastings, Kranjc racked up 297 wins, an NAIA national championship, a national runner-up finish, four national semifinal berths, and 11 overall national tournament appearances, and he was named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Coach of the Year a stunning 15 times.

OFFENSIVE LEADERS RETURN: UAH returns four of the seven players who scored multiple goals last year including last year's top scorers in Jordan Wright and Hermann Bjornsson who scored 13 and six times, respectively. Preseason all-conference selection Guy Clennett – Wright also was a preseason all-GSC honoree – scored three goals and added three assists last year, and that performance was matched by Daniel Buchanan who is also back.

PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATION: The Chargers were picked to finish third in the Gulf South Conference this year by the league's head coaches, placing behind preseason favorite West Alabama and West Florida. UAH is coming off of three straight trips to the GSC tournament semifinals.

ABOUT TREVECCA NAZARENE: Thursday's opponent will also be marking its season opener when the Trojans travel to Huntsville as the team has been picked to finish fifth in the GMAC after going 7-10 a season ago. Ryan Hogan and Jeremiah Wright paced TNU last season with five goals apiece, and both are back for their senior seasons in Nashville.

SERIES HISTORY: UAH is 1-1-2 all-time against the Trojans, and the teams last met in the season opener in 2013 when they played to a 1-1 draw in Nashville. Bjornsson was a freshman that season and earned his first collegiate point with an assist on UAH's goal.

ABOUT LYNN: The Fighting Knights are No. 25 in the NSCAA preseason poll and have been picked to finish second in the SSC, and the team will visit Auburn Montgomery and Lee before heading to the Rocket City. Defender Luca Puster is one of the team's leading returners as the defender was an all-SSC and all-South Region honoree last year.

SERIES HISTORY: UAH is 0-5-0 all-time against Lynn.
