Â
A NEW CAMPAIGN: The UAH women's soccer team will start off the 2016 season with a pair of games in three days, hosting Alabama A&M on Sunday at 1 p.m. and then welcoming No. 11 Carson-Newman at noon on Tuesday. The Chargers are unbeaten in their last three home openers with a win and two draws during that span.
Â
HOME SWEET HOME: The Charger faithful will have numerous chances to see the Blue and White on the Charger Park pitch to start the season as five of UAH's first six games are in the Rocket City. UAH was 5-3-2 at home a season ago marking the team's highest win total at home in the past four seasons.
Â
TOP RETURNERS: The Chargers return 11 letterwinners from last year's squad including all-GSC honoree
Maddie Maurice who led the Chargers with 1,560 minutes played last year. Also back are the team's top two scorers in
Sydney Pfankuch and
Alexcia Alexander with both heading into their junior seasons. Last year, Pfankuch scored eight goals and added five assists for 21 points, while Alexander potted eight goals and three assists for 19 points.
Â
NEW FACES: Head coach
Jimmy Mitchell has brought in 17 new players to the squad this season including eight players from Alabama. One of those Alabama products is Alabaster's
Lauren Mayer who was selected as one of the GSC's top newcomers during the preseason, and she was joined in earning that recognition by
Arieal Alexander who joins her sister Alexcia at UAH.
Â
ABOUT ALABAMA A&M: Alabama A&M comes to Charger Park with an 0-5 record having dropped a pair of matches in Normal and three on the road. The Bulldogs have yet to record a goal on the season as the opposition has outscored the team 25-0.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers hold the upper-hand in the all-time series, winning four games to A&M's two victories. The last meeting came on Sept. 7, 2012, at Charger Park when UAH was a 5-0 winner to give Mitchell his first win on the UAH sideline.
Â
ABOUT CARSON-NEWMAN: The 11th-ranked Eagles entered the weekend at 1-0 on the year after picking up a 3-1 win at Trevecca Nazarene to start the year, and the team will visit Huntsville with another contest under its belt as C-N takes on Lees-McRae on Saturday. Both Holly Talbut-Smith and Lauren Wade had three-point performances in the win over TNU, logging a goal and an assist.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The all-time series with C-N is even at 2-2-1 after the Eagles claimed a 4-3 decision last year in Tennessee, but when the teams last met in Huntsville, UAH was a 4-3 victor in the 2014 season finale at Charger Park.
