UAH Tripped Up on Thursday at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team dropped its opening game of its two-game swing through Mississippi, falling 75-65 at Mississippi College. The Chargers slip to 2-11 (1-7 Gulf South Conference), while MC improves to 6-5 (4-4 GSC).
 
Turning Point
-With the lead just two and 2:34 remaining in the contest, Mississippi College proceeded to hold UAH to just a point while outscoring the guests 11-1 over the final minutes to wrap up the victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Loren Foster hit four 3-pointers en route to scoring 16 points on the night, and her performance was matched by Baylee Johnson who also scored 16.
-UAH had a trio of double-figure scorers as Caroline Dodd chipped in with 10 on the night.
-The Chargers were led on the glass by Morgan Tipton who came off the bench to grab a game-best nine rebounds.
-UAH shot 42.6 percent from the floor in the game while MC connected on 42.6 of its attempts, and the Lady Choctaws won the rebounding battle by a 35-32 margin.
-A key difference in the contest, Mississippi College was able to outscore UAH 33-16 in points off turnovers and 15-4 in second-chance points.
 
Inside the Flow
-The Chargers started out strong, scoring the game's first six points, and then with the score 6-4 at the 7:49 mark, UAH would outscore the hosts 15-8 over the next five and a half minutes to go up by nine at 21-12 with 2:03 left in the first quarter.
-After the Lady Choctaws scored the quarter's last four points to make it 21-16 going into the second, UAH would go back up by seven after Taylor Kimber scored the opening points of the second stanza, but MC then went on a 9-0 run to go ahead 25-23 with 7:03 left until the halftime break.
-UAH would tie the contest on a pair of occasions, but Mississippi College would grab a nine-point advantage of its own before the Chargers held the home team scoreless over the final two minutes on its way to whittling the deficit down to just 38-35 at the half.
-After the Choctaws had gone back up by five just over two minutes into the third quarter, UAH would reel off an 8-0 run to go back in front at 46-43 near the midway point of the period, but MC then outscored UAH 10-5 to take a 53-51 lead at the conclusion of the third.
-The lead then grew to as many as eight for MC in the fourth before UAH narrowed the gap to two twice on the strength of back-to-back 3-pointers from Dodd and a Foster triple that made it 64-62 with 2:34 left.
 
Noteworthy
-The nine-rebound showing from Tipton marks the second time this season she has led UAH in the glass, as she grabbed 10 boards against West Georgia on Dec. 15.
-Foster's 16 points ties for her second-best showing of the season as she also scored 16 against Tuskegee on Nov. 12 and she established her season-best with 18 against Trevecca Nazarene on Dec. 12.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday as the squad ventures to Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. against the Lady Statesmen.
