Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Roberts Has Career Day in UAH Victory at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The No. 25 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team withstood a terrific performance from Lee on the road Saturday, outlasting the hosts 101-94. UAH remains tied with Valdosta State for first in the league by going to 13-4 (9-2 Gulf South Conference), while Lee slips to 9-8 (5-6 GSC).

Turning Point
-After withstanding a significant run from the Flames that saw an 11-point UAH lead turn into a one-point deficit before a flurry of lead changes, Brandon Roberts hit a 3-pointer at the 6:40 mark of the second half that put the Chargers up for good.

Inside the Box Score
-Brandon Roberts – who eclipsed 1,000 points for his career spanning his time at both Samford and UAH – turned in a stunning performance, going 10-for-13 from the floor and 12-for-14 at the charity stripe to score 34 and lead a quartet of Chargers who scored in double figures.
-Joining Roberts with a strong offensive night was Seab Webster who hit four 3-pointers on his way to scoring 22, while both Troy Saxton and Justin Ward scored 10.
-UAH was led on the glass by Webster who grabbed six boards.
-Jervon Johnson scored 21 to lead the Flames, while Cody Jones hit six of the team's 16 3-pointers to score 18.
-After shooting 59.4 percent in the second half, the Chargers finished the game shooting 55.0 percent, while Lee connected on 66.7 percent of its attempts in the first half – including a 9-for-15 showing from beyond the arc – before cooling off to shoot just 38.5 percent in the second half for an overall shooting mark of 52.8 percent.
-UAH edged out the Flames in the rebounding battle, grabbing 30 boards compared to the home team's total of 29.
-The Chargers protected the basketball and gave it away just six times to hold a key 21-14 edge in points off turnovers, and UAH also enjoyed a 38-22 margin in points off turnovers.

Inside the Flow
-Nine 3-pointers by Lee allowed the Flames to lead by as many as seven in the opening half, opening up that advantage on four different occasions in the period including with 3:01 left in the stanza.
-At that point, Roberts scored six points in an 8-0 run that allowed the Chargers to go ahead 46-45, but the ninth triple of the half ended the run and produced a 48-46 deficit for UAH at the half.
-The Chargers then scored the first eight points of the second half to go up by six at 54-48 at the 17:16 mark, and the strong start to the half allowed the guests to go up 69-58 with 13:09 left in the game.
-Lee had an answer, however, ripping off an 18-6 run to reclaim the lead at 76-75 with 7:57 on the clock, setting up a stretch over the next minute in which there was a tie and three lead changes, culminating with a Roberts triple that put UAH on top for what would prove to be the duration.
-The Roberts 3-pointer was part of a 7-0 run by himself that put the Chargers ahead 84-78 with 5:36, but the Flames would once again narrow the gap, pulling back to within two at three different moments down the stretch.
-UAH, however, had an answer each time with Roberts making a layup fall after the first instance, Michael Gilmore hitting a key 3-pointer on the second, and Roberts again responding on the final one, and the Chargers would eventually go up by as many as eight again in the waning moments.

Noteworthy
-Roberts now owns 1,023 points for his career after the strong performance on Saturday.
-The 34-point showing is also the second time this season that a UAH player has breached the 30-point mark as Webster recorded 38 against Union on Jan. 7.
-The Chargers have now broken the 100-point mark twice on the year.
-UAH now is 2-0 on the year when the opponent shoots better than 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on Thursday when they return home to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall to face Delta State. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
