Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Elder Scores Career-Best 21 in Setback at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team traveled to Lee on Saturday, falling 72-56. The Chargers slip to 2-14 (1-10 GSC), while the Flames improve to 12-5 (7-4 GSC).

Turning Point
-The hosts opened the second half on a 9-0 run, turning a 10-point halftime advantage into a 41-22 lead with 8:31 on the clock in the third quarter, and Lee's advantage would not fall back into single digits the rest of the way.

Inside the Box Score
-Chandler Elder led the Chargers on the day as she was 5-for-9 from the floor and 11-for-16 at the charity stripe on her way to scoring a game-high 21 points, and she was joined in double figures by Baylee Johnson who added 18.
-Three players paced UAH on the glass as each of Morgan Tipton, Loren Foster, and Katie Speegle grabbed six rebounds in the game.
-Leading in scoring in the game for the Flames was Carrie Cheeks who scored 15.
-For the contest, UAH shot 34.7 percent with the Flames shooting 39.7 percent, and Lee won the rebounding battle by a 43-34 margin.

Inside the Flow
-UAH grabbed an early 3-2 lead after an old-fashioned 3-point play was completed by Elder at the 7:25 mark of the opening quarter, but Lee would go on a 12-6 run late in the stanza to hold a 21-12 advantage going into the second.
-A 7-0 run for the guests in the second quarter would pull the Chargers within two at 23-21, and Lee would have its own run, closing the quarter out on 9-1 spurt to go into the half up 32-22.
-The 10-point advantage for the Flames quickly expanded to 19 – the largest margin of the game for the hosts – at 41-22 just over a minute and a half into the third, and though UAH would narrow its deficit down to 10 at 55-45 with 1:27 in the clock, Lee would go into the fourth holding a 59-46 lead.
-A Johnson layup started the scoring in the fourth quarter and pulled UAH within 11, but the team could get no closer in the remainder of the game.

Noteworthy
-The 21-points for Elder mark a career-high for the junior with her previous best coming earlier this year when she scored 18 against Trevecca Nazarene on Nov. 29, and the 11 successful free throws is also a personal high.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on Thursday when they return home to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall to face Delta State. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
