Mississippi College Pushes Past UAH on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's team dropped a 63-58 decision to visiting Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. The Chargers fall to 3-15 (2-11 Gulf South Conference), while MC improves to 10-7 (7-6 GSC).

Turning Point
-The guests opened up the fourth quarter by scoring eight straight points in a 1:35 stretch to take what had been a three-point UAH lead and turn it into an advantage that the Choctaws would not surrender the rest of the way.

Inside the Box Score
-Scoring a team-best 20 points was Baylee Johnson who went 7-for-13 from the field and 5-for-6 at the charity stripe, and the sophomore also grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists.
-Chandler Elder recorded a double-double, hitting three 3-pointers on her way to scoring 13 points while also grabbing 11 rebounds, and for good measure she also added a team-best five steals while collecting two steals.
-Loren Foster rounded out the double-figure scorers by also chipping in with 13, and she had three takeaways on the day.
-Kelley Allen had 14 to lead the visitors.
-UAH shot 39.6 percent in the game compared to 40.3 percent by Mississippi College, and the Choctaws also won the rebounding battle by a 36-34 margin.
-The Chargers recorded 13 assists on 19 made field goals.

Inside the Flow
-UAH jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the contest, and after finishing the first quarter up 13-8, a Foster 3-pointer to start the second stanza put the Chargers ahead by eight at 16-8 which would be UAH's largest lead of the night.
-MC would then reel off eight straight points to tie the contest at 16-16 with just under six minutes left until halftime, and the hosts outscored the Choctaws 8-7 the rest of the way to go into the half leading 24-23.
-A 7-2 run for the Chargers to start the third quarter put the team up 31-25 with 7:41 on the clock, but MC answered with a 7-0 run to go in front for the first time by gaining a 32-31 advantage at 5:06 of the period.
-There would then be six ties and two lead changes over the next 5:33 with the Choctaws taking the lead for good just 27 seconds into the fourth quarter when the team went up 41-40.
-UAH would pull to within two with 3:29 left in the game, but MC scored six of the next eight to seal the contest.

Noteworthy
-Johnson matches her season-high with the 20-point performance, as she also scored 20 on Nov. 29 against Trevecca Nazarene.
-Elder notches her fourth double-double of the season.

Next Time Out
-The Chargers will wrap up their three games in five days stretch on Monday when the team welcomes rival North Alabama to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
