CBU Uses Strong Third Quarter to Slip Past UAH

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team fell in conference play on Monday afternoon, dropping a 57-52 decision to visiting Christian Brothers. UAH slips to 2-10 (1-6 Gulf South Conference), while CBU improves to 7-5 (4-4 GSC).

Turning Point
-Christian Brothers went on a 19-2 run that spanned most of the third quarter, turning a 10-point lead for the Chargers into a 43-36 edge for the Bucs by the 1:26 mark of the period to sway the contest in CBU's favor.

Inside the Box Score
-Three players scored in double figures for the Chargers led once again by freshman Katie Speegle who scored 13 on a strong 6-for-8 day from the field.
-Loren Foster scored 12 on the day including three 3-pointers, and the junior recorded a double-double as she paced UAH on the glass with 10 rebounds.
-Rounding out UAH's double-figure scorers was Baylee Johnson who matched Foster with 12.
-Morgan Tipton was also strong on the glass in the game, grabbing nine boards including three on the offensive end.
-CBU was led by Samantha Reeves who scored 22.
-The visitors outshot the Chargers by a 43.8 percent to 34.6 percent clip, but UAH won the battle on the boards by securing 39 rebounds to CBU's 31.

Inside the Flow
-The Chargers opened up as much as an eight-point lead in the first quarter after a Forster triple made it 16-8 at the 3:44 mark, but CBU responded with nine of the next 11 points, making it an 18-17 lead for UAH just inside the start of the second quarter.
-UAH then ripped off a 12-4 spurt during which six different players scored, creating a nine-point lead at 30-21, and the Chargers would go into the locker room up 32-24.
-Speegle made the third quarter's first bucket to give the hosts their largest lead of the night at 34-24, but then CBU went on its big run, taking the lead by the 5:19 mark of the period.
-The advantage for Christian Brothers would grow to as many as 12 at 53-41 with 5:07 remaining in the game and again at the 3:24 mark at 55-43.
-After that point, UAH held CBU to just a pair of free throws in whittling the deficit all the way down to just five with 21 seconds left, but the team was unable to complete the comeback.

Noteworthy
-The 10 boards for Foster mark a career high, and thus the double-double is also the first for the Sparta, Tennessee, native.
-Speegle has now led UAH in scoring in four of the team's past six games, and she has raised her scoring average to a season-best 8.5 points per game which ranks third on the team.
